The Best Of Science : Water Reflection
Did you know the human uses about 80-100 gallons of water per day?!? Yes it's true ,us humans use lots of water. Using water uncaringly means that we aren't helping the earth to save the H2O. Protecting water is very important because we need water to survive. Sadly we can only survive without water for a few days. Did you also know that a few places only have a little bit more than a few years to fresh and clean water? For example California only has 20 years of clean fresh water till it is gone. Fun fact ! We are polluting our water by throwing garbage and chemicals in lakes and oceans. We also pollute our water by factory smoke which goes into the water cycle. We can reduce the filth, pollution, and use less water by recycling our trash instead of throwing it anywhere that can eventually put filth in the lakes, streams and oceans . We can reduce throwing chemicals Into bodies of water and find a way for smoke from factories and cars to not go in our water cycle. Another thing we can do is use less water to use less water you should take quicker showers or you know what they say use less water more money you'll save.
What we did with a water meter was try to find it, take a clear picture of it , and record the data on the data page. On the first week we just had to record the amount of water we used every single day at the exact same time. Every time we would take a picture of the water meter our parent guardian would have to sign the data sheet. When the first week was finished we all had to add up the amount of gallons of water we used and record it on the sheet . On the second week we did the same way on collecting data but the difference was that we had to find at least 5 ways to save water. The five ways to save water was to turn off the water when you are brushing your teeth, take quicker showers, when you wash dishes don’t leave water running ,minimize use of kitchen sink garbage disposal units , keep a bottled water in the fridge, and rinse your razor in the sink. Sadly my family did not participate for saving water. the reason for that was because we have seven people in our family and three of the seven are under 9 years old. Also we had people working on my house. It was really hard because not only did we have people working on my house constantly, we also had relatives that came over too.
I used more than one thousand gallons of water on the first week of the water meter testing. at the end of the second week I had a about a 200 gallon gain. I used more water the second week then the first week. I think this happened because during the first me and my family were not as busy in the house. During week one we also went to lifetime to take showers and brush our teeth and relax. On week two we had guests over and the workers were working on my house. Also on week two on my data sheet it said for one of them we hit three hundred gallons of water. This is because my mom made us a big dish that contains a lot of water and we took very long showers. The reason it is hard for everyone even me to break a habit it's because most of the times we have been doing it for about a few months or a few years. Sometimes we just give up on breaking our habits because it's really annoying to keep telling yourself no all the time. Constantly we trick ourselves when we say that we are gonna break our bad habits but then we don't break them , then we say starting now we are going to break our habits. Breaking bad habits is hard but you have to push yourself to break it.
